Antigo completes sweep of Tomahawk with big second half
space
The Antigo Red Robins girls basketball team completed a season sweep of Tomahawk Tuesday night at the Sheldon Fieldhouse, scoring a dominant 58-23 victory.

It marked the season's second win for the Lady Robins, with both coming against the Hatchets.

The game was actually close at the half, with Antigo holding just a six-point advantage at 23-17. Things changed rapidly in the second, with the Lady Robins out-scoring Tomahawk 35-6.

“We played really well as a team,” head coach Carla Wissbroecker said. “We started off slow and at the half I told the girls that we need to play at our level and we needed to pick it up, the girls did an amazing job opening up the lead and our defense started playing the way we play defense.”

Greta Parsons led a balanced Antigo scoring attack with 15 points, while adding five rebounds.

Lily Nicholson put up 11 points, while Lonna Weix was the third Lady Robin in double figures with 10 points, while adding four rebounds.

Mckenzie Schroepfer contributed seven points and was very active defensively with four steals and four rebounds.

Brynn Devore added seven points, Kathryn McKinney knocked down a three point basket in the second half for her first career varsity points, while Riley McCann had two points, five steals and three rebounds in a good all-around game.

Lily Nagel chipped in two points, along with a big five steals and three rebounds. Natalie Dewey added a free throw to the Robins' point total as well.

Heather Arlen was the Robins' leading rebounder on the night with six.

The win comes after a pair of recent two-point losses for the Lady Robins, as they continue to play hard and improve down the stretch.

“These girls are coming together and playing well,” Wissbroecker noted. “I have everyone stepping up and doing great things, this is a group who continues to work hard everyday, I have high expectations of them all and they continue to rise to those expectations.”

Gracie Barnett led Tomahawk in scoring with 11 points, Haley Liebelt had four.

The Lady Robins are now 2-17 overall, 2-8 in the Great Northern Conference. Tomahawk fell to 1-17, 0-11 in the GNC.

Antigo will next travel to Rhinelander for the front end of a boys-girls doubleheader on Friday night, with a 6 p.m. tip. It's a rematch of a game won by the Hodags 77-41 on Jan. 10.
