Young Hornets start strong with rout of Bowler
space
It was a great start to the season for the Elcho Hornets boys basketball team Tuesday, rallying from an early deficit to rout Bowler 71-43.

“The boys came out slow and lost the small lead they initially started with,” head coach Eric Strzok said. “We made changes in the first half offensively and looked to push the ball up the court more, that lead to us regaining the lead.”

The Hornets took a 35-17 lead to the half and continued to push the temp in the second.

“We continued on pace after half, working hard on defense,” Strzok noted. “Bowler put a press on in the second half which the boys broke, but it's still an area we will need to work on.”

Sophomore Chase Novak ended as the game's leading scorer with 21 points and was a presence inside, while Wyatt Wagner, another sophomore posted 14 points.

Seth Schuett tallied nine points, Bruce Rea had eight, with Keegan Klingler contributing six for a young Elcho team that is showing plenty of promise.

Schuett is a sophomore and Klingler a freshman.

Another pair of freshmen, Mason Gray and John Slowik added five and three points respectively.

Bowler was led by Zach Ferman's 14 points. Despite Elcho leading by double digits throughout the second half, the Panthers showed no quit.

“Bowler played really hard the entire game and never quit,” Strzok said. “It was nice seeing the jump balls that were happening for both teams as they really fought hard for the win, it was a confidence builder for our young guys.”

Bowler, from the Central Wisconsin North Conference, fell to 0-2 on the year.
