Despite injuries, Antigo gymnastics scores are high

The Antigo Red Robin gymnastics team fought their way through a 137.275-117.575 Great Northern Conference loss Thursday evening at Marshfield High School, falling to the Tigers.

Despite multiple injuries, the team was able to post a near season-high score of 117.575, just nine-tenths of a point off of their season-best of 118.475.  

The freshmen for Antigo competed very well Thursday, with Kaley Zarda placing fourth on floor with an 8.350 and fifth on beam with a 7.500, and Claire Musolff placing fourth on beam with a 7.600 and fifth on bars with a 7.175.

Maggie Winter was the team's only other podium finisher with a third-place finish on bars with a 7.750, and an 8.300 on vault for fifth.

Winter also finished third in the all-around with a score of 31.250, followed by Musolff in fourth with a 30.425, and Zarda in fifth with a 30.350.

The Robins began on their weakest event, uneven bars, with a combined score of 25.025.  After Winter and Musolff, Zarda finished eighth with a 6.900, and Chloe Decker finished ninth with a score of 3.200.

Floor exercise and vault were the team's strong suits, scoring a combined 31.95 on vault and 31.700 on floor.  Once again, after Winter and Musolff, Decker scored an 8.150 in seventh-place on vault, Zarda scored a 7.600 for ninth-place, and Erin Zirngible scored a 7.00 for tenth-place place overall.

On floor, after Zarda, Winter scored an 8.125 for sixth, followed by Musolff in eighth with a 7.750, Decker with a 7.475 for ninth, and Zirngible with a 6.950, taking tenth-place.

Along with Winter, Musolff, and Zarda, Decker also competed in the all-around with a total score of 24.775 for sixth-place.

On junior varsity, some highlights included a 7.200 by Hannah Nonnenmacher on beam for third-place and  6.400 on beam by Rory VerHagen for fifth place.

The girls will compete on Saturday in Rice Lake for their next competition.  The invite will begin at 10 a.m.
