JV girls team takes down Mosinee 42-29
space
The Antigo girls JV basketball team had a strong outing as it tipped off against Mosinee on its home court on Monday night. The girls took the lead early and held strong to take the win 42-29 putting its record at 14-6 overall.

The Red Robins played fundamental basketball as it took the court and went ahead from the start. It became a game of execution to hold onto the lead as the game went on.

The first half saw the Robins open up the court and spread the ball around with a lot of the girls contributing to the scoring. It pulled away little by little and held strong on defense to hold back the Indians offensive attack. Towards the end of the half Antigo's defense became a bit lax and let Mosinee put up a few points, but headed into the break with a 20-11 lead.

"It was a solid win tonight," Antigo's head coach Bruce Brown said. "It was nice to be able to get all the girls quality playing time."

Coming into the second half the Robins ran some new plays that it had been working on in practice. This kept Mosinee on its heels as they couldn't find an answer and turned the ball over allowing Antigo to push up the floor getting some fastbreaks and going in for uncontested layups.

The Indians stayed aggressive throughout the contest keeping the Robins focused and made it a competitive game. Mosinee was able to find a way to get more looks at the hoop in the second putting 18 points on the board, but it wasn't enough for a comeback as Antigo added another 22 to secure the lead.

"The girls continue to put in a lot of effort," Brown added. "It's been a great season watching them grow and push themselves to get better with each game."

Maya Gaedtke took the reigns for Antigo and had the game high of 14 points with six coming from the free throw line.
