Public transportation services are being expanded in Langlade County.

This week, Aspirus Langlade Hospital and Red Robin Transit announced that funding has been secured to add two additional routes on the city’s flex bus service, now operating from 9:15 a.m. until 6:35 p.m. with 18 stops six times daily Monday through Friday throughout the city.

One-way fare is priced at $1.50 for adult; $1 for seniors over age 60; and $1.25 for student. In addition, there will be an added van operating under the Reserve a Ride service. This is a door-to-door service with the rider reserving the ride in advance in which they are picked up at their location and driven to another location without the need of going to a bus stop. This service is first come-first served based on driver and vehicle availability.

Operating times are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with coverage for all of Langlade County. Fares are based on location: In-city, within eight-miles and outside of eight-miles but within Langlade County. Cost is:

— City of Antigo: $1.50 adult; $1, senior over 60 and disabled; $1.25, student.

—Rural, within eight miles of city: $3.50, adult; $3, seniors and disabled; $3.25, student.

—Langlade County, outside of eight mile radius: $4.50, adult; $4, senior and disabled; $4.25, student.

Monthly rates are available for all ridership levels.

The Community Health Needs Assessments conducted in 2013 and 2016 both identified transportation as one of the greatest difficulties in accessing health care services in Langlade County. As a result, a team was established at Aspirus Langlade Hospital to determine options to positively impact this issue in the community.

An assessment was conducted to understand the current state of public transportation and found affordable public transportation services with convenient hours were limited in the community.

The group noted that Red Robin Transit provided the only public transportation services in the City of Antigo and within an eight -mile radius and service opportunities were restricted due to budget limitations.

In April funding was approved through Aspirus Langlade Hospital’s sponsored Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph Mission Fund Council to strengthen the public transportation services not only in Antigo, but to all 888 square miles of Langlade County through a collaborative agreement with Menominee Regional Public Transit, operators of Red Robin Transit.
