Antigo Area Weekend Activities
space
The northwoods will say good-bye to 2017 and ring in 2018 with a variety of gala activities this weekend.

The holiday kicks off tonight with dining and music at Vickie and the Vets. The dedication of a new ski lodge at the Moccasin Trail, the focus of over a year of fund-raising, will continue the weekend Saturday afternoon, with the Wisconsin Badgers taking on the Miami Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl, and plenty of relayed festivities for local game-watching, in the evening.

Sunday will feature a spectacular round of dining and party opportunities and New Year’s Day on Monday begins with the Antigo Daily Journal’s baby watch awaiting the first arrival of the new year at Aspirus Langlade Hospital.

A look ahead, taken from the advertising columns, follows.

LODGE DEDICATION

After a successful fund-raising campaign, construction is complete on Michelle’s Lodge at the Moccasin Trail and it’s time to celebrate.

A dedication and grand opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a chili dump, along with hot chocolate and other treats. Bring hot dogs or marshmallows for roasting over the bonfire.

A short program is planned at 1:30 p.m.

The trailhead is located west of Elcho. Take Enterprise Lake Road in Elcho, west to Moccasin Lake Road and turn south to Bear Lane. Watch for signs.

The event is hosted by the Elcho Cross-Country Ski Club.

The wickedly cold weather is expected to moderate a bit for the afternoon lodge dedication, but with below zero temperatures during the morning hours the decision has been made to cancel the annual Breakfast at Gartzke hosted by the Antigo Bike and Ski Club. Participants are encouraged to stay at home a bit longer and than head north to the Moccasin Trail for chili and the lodge dedication after 1 p.m.
