State powerhouse Ashland is too much for Red Robin gymnasts
space
The Antigo Red Robins gymnastics team dropped a home dual meet to perennial state power Ashland Tuesday night at the Sheldon Fieldhouse, falling 130.1500-119.9500.

The Oredockers overwhelmed the Robins with numerous high placements in individual events.

Ashland took four of the top five spots in the balance beam and five of the top six in the floor exercise. Antigo’s highest finish in the beam came from Emma Jansen, who placed second. Maggie Winter claimed the highest spot for the Robins in the floor exercise with a fourth place finish.

We lacked confidence and focus in both the beam and floor, Head Coach Julie Langseth said. Our skills are there but we are just not executing.

The Oredockers took the top three spots in the vault, but Antigo had an improved performance in the event, with Madi Langseth and Jansen tying for fourth, each with a score of 8.450.

We showed improvement on the vault, Langseth noted. We blocked and executed with better form.

The uneven bars saw the Robins claim fourth place, courtesy of Jansen, and sixth place, courtesy of Winter.

Our unevens are also showing improvement, Langseth added. But we are still working on consistency.

Jansen ended the night with a third place showing in the all-around, with Madi Langseth taking fifth. Isabelle Seeger of Ashland won the all-around with a score of 33.100. Her teammate, Rosemary Dunn was a close second at 32.600. Jansen ended with a score of 31.700.

The gymnastics team is now off until Jan. 9, when they travel to Wisconsin Rapids.
