Penguins turn in very good performance in first meet

The Antigo Penguins swim team competed in its first conference meet of the season, hosted by Lakeland, this past Saturday.

The Lakeland Sprints features 25 yard sprints for swimmers ages 12 and under, and 50 yard sprints for ages 13 and over.

Antigo sent five swimmers to the meet, including Mya Burt, Maggie Neufeld, Molly Neufeld, Morgan Rank and Zander Reetz.

The Penguins received ribbons in a number of events. Burt, competing in the age nine and 10 group, snagged three first place finishes, coming in the 25 yard freestyle, 25 yard backstroke and 25 yard breaststroke. Burt also took third in the 25 yard butterfly.

Reetz, also competing in the nine and 10-year-old bracket, received ribbons in three 25 yard events. Reetz took third in the backstroke, fourth in the breaststroke and sixth in the freestyle. He was also a fifth place finisher in the 100 yard individual medley.

Rank was a participant in the 13 and 14-year-old group, and took fourth place in the 50 yard breaststroke, fifth place in the 50 yard butterfly and was sixth in the 50 yard freestyle.

Molly Neufeld grabbed a sixth place finish in the 25 yard backstroke, 11 and 12-year-old division.

The Penguins also found success in a relay event, as the 12 and under 100 yard freestyle relay turned in a strong performance, taking second in a time of 1:15.32. Team members included Burt, Maggie and Molly Neufeld and Reetz.

The Penguins are coached by Janelle Bolser and Betsy Neufeld.
