Top of the lineup ignites Robin bats in GNC win over Northland Pines
space
The Antigo Red Robins baseball team find themselves in a surprising early hole last night, trailing Northland Pines 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning, but Antigo’s bats soon came alive in what would be a 15-3, five inning victory.

Pines scored their three first inning runs on four hits, coming in consecutive order off Antigo starter Brady Tatro. The Robins answered back in the bottom half with two runs on RBI base hits from Tatro and Garret Held.

After ending an Eagles threat in the top half of the second inning, Antigo took control in the bottom of the frame. The Robins sent 16 batters to the plate, scoring ten times on seven base hits. Matt Winter had the lone extra base hit of the frame, a double. Northland Pines’ pitching aided the cause with four base on balls and one hit batsmen.

Nice win for us today, Head Coach Scott Farmer said. We struggled a little in the beginning but came on strong after we got going.

Two Pines errors led to two more Antigo runs in the third and the Robins tacked on another in the fourth.

Tatro went two innings on the mound and was relieved by Cody Urban who also went two. Urban did not allow a single hit and struck out seven. A.J. Kirsch pitched a scoreless fifth to end the game on the ten run rule.

We had the opportunity to get a look at a couple of different pitchers which was a big deal, as we haven’t played in almost a week, Farmer added.

The top of Antigo’s lineup set the tone, with Luke Schroeder, Winter, Tatro and A.J. Kirsch going a combined nine for 13 with six runs driven in.

The top of the order was on fire tonight, Farmer said. That is what we are capable of up and down the order, our guys just need to start believing it.

The Robins improve to 5-2 overall with their fourth straight win. They are now 2-0 in the Great Northern Conference. Pines fell to 0-5 and 0-3 in GNC play.

Antigo is home to Medford on Tuesday, beginning a challenging week, with a trip to Rhinelander Thursday and a home matchup with Waupaca Friday.

Next week starts a big span of tough match ups, Farmer noted. Looking forward to the challenge and we believe the guys are up to it as well.
