Kayla Berg missing five years, case never far from investigator's thoughts
space
It’s a case Det. Sgt. Dan Duley of the Antigo Police Department says never leaves his mind.

On Monday, family and friends of Kayla Mae Berg will mark the five-year anniversary of when on Aug. 11, 2009, the then 15-year-old Antigo girl disappeared.

The search for her whereabouts still continues today.

“It’s on my mind every day. It’s still an active case,” Duley stresses.

The detective says the law enforcement agency continues to take calls on the case and advises that any tip received is investigated. And with continued help from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there are hopes that one of those tips may pan out.

“Hopefully through continued review of the case it will open up some leads,” he says.

Berg went missing two weeks prior to her 16th birthday. There were reports she had been driven to Wausau to a visit a friend but she hasn’t been seen since.

On Monday, “A Night of Hope” will be held in her honor at the Hudson Street shelter at Lake Park. The non-profit organization called Missing Not Forgotten will host the event at 6 p.m. with a candlelight vigil to follow.

Five hundred balloons containing information about the Antigo teen, along with hollyhock seed donated By Susan Olson of Olson's Balsams, will be released.

A donation of $1 per balloon is requested. Missing Not Forgotten bottled water will also be available for $1 per bottle.

Anyone who may have information on the case is asked to contact the Antigo Police Department at (715) 627-6411 or Langlade County Crimestoppers at (715) 627-NAIL.
