Fritsch pitches a shut-out in key All Star victory
space
It could perhaps be said that the Antigo 11-12 year old All Star team has good timing.

In need of a win in order to continue its play in the Little League state tournament series, the crew crushed Rice Lake 8-0 on Wednesday to advance to this afternoon’s semi-finals at Doepke Park in Wausau.

The 4:30 p.m. matchup versus undefeated Burlington (5-0) will advance the winner to Friday’s state championship game. In a previous outing, Burlington defeated Antigo 12-0. Antigo enters today’s game at 2-3.

Burlington earned its spot by topping Whitefish Bay 5-4 in Wednesday’s outing.

As for Antigo, Alex Fritsch proved to be the star of the show. Nailing a home run and a single from the plate, he also dominated on the mound by pitching a six inning shut-out, including two strike outs, to deliver his team the victory.

“Fritsch pitched a gem tonight in the most impressive pitching performance by any pitcher at the state tournament thus far,” Coach Lon Ebel said. “However, it was a total team effort as well with great hitting, base running and defensive plays.”

Antigo combined for 11 hits on the day including two each by Brady Renfro, Nevin Cornelius and Chris Krueger. Eli Fleischman, Daniel Ison and Lennon Ebel also contributed to the hit count.
