Oconto falls fast and hard to Legion Post No. 3 in DH|
With threats of scattered thunderstorms, the Antigo Legion Post 3 baseball team managed to play both games of a league doubleheader against Oconto on Monday. The Antigo bats struck early and often as the Typhoon crushed Oconto 14-1 and 18-3.
After holding Oconto to a quick 1-2-3 top of the first, Antigo jumped out to a five run lead in the bottom of the inning highlighted by an Erik Schielke grand slam to left center.
The Typhoon scored four more runs in the second inning with an RBI single from Blake Below, a two-run double from Luke Osborne, and an RBI double from Schielke.
Randy Krebs led off the third inning with a triple, eventually scoring on an RBI groundout from Below. The Typhoon added four more insurance runs in the fourth inning when Caleb Raddant hammered a two-run double, coupled with an RBI single from Krebs and another RBI groundout by Below.
Krebs earned the win pitching five innings, allowing only one run off three hits, while walking one and striking out 11 Oconto batters.
Offensively, Schielke led the Typhoon with four hits, including the epic grand slam and a double. Krebs finished with three hits, including a triple. Below finished with a pair of base hits.
Osborne and Raddant each finished with a double, while Bastle, Jed Weix, and Bryce Chrudimsky contributed a base hit each.
Playing the second game as the visiting team on the scoreboard, the Typhoon plated three unearned runs on an error and two wild pitches.
In the second inning, Antigo managed six scores with Bastle, Luke Osborne, Schielke, and Justen Wegter driving in runs on base hits while Caleb Raddant drove in two on a single.
In the third, Antigo put up five more runs with Osborne and Krebs hitting RBI singles. Jed Weix connected with a two-run double, and Raddant lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.
After going scoreless in the fourth inning, Antigo would tack on another four runs, with RBI doubles from Krebs and Bastle, and RBI singles from Below and Jesse Homp.
Four players took to the mound for Antigo in the nightcap. Bryce Chrudimsky started and pitched two innings, allowing one run off of three hits and a walk while striking out two. Raddant pitched an inning in which he allowed three walks and struck out a batter.
Osborne allowed two runs off one hit and walked two Oconto batters. Bastle pitched the fifth inning, allowing three walks while also striking out a batter.
Offensively, Below led with four hits, including a triple. Krebs and Osborne added three hits, including a double each. Bastle and Weix added two hits including a double apiece, while Wegter also added a pair of base hits.
Chrudimsky, Schielke, Raddant, and Homp finished with singles.
With the doubleheader sweep, Antigo improves to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in the Fox River Valley North. Up next for Antigo is a 7 p.m. home game against Mosinee today, and a 7 p.m. league game against Peshtigo on Wednesday.
