Superheroes coming to Antigo for musical production Wednesday

Superheroes come to Antigo Wednesday, when Antigo Youth Theater 2014 presents “The Quest of the Social League.”

Showtime is 7 p.m. in the high school’s Volm Theater.

The half-hour mini-musical was produced in a whirlwind fashion by students involved in the district’s summer school program. Admission is a non-perishable food item or a monetary donation to the local food pantry.

“We have 30 talented students this year in grades four through nine,” co-director Julie Barger said. “Students learn backstage information as well as performance arts in this class. It is amazing to us that our young actors and actresses can put on such an awesome production after only 15 classes.”

“We are grateful for all the support we receive from students, parents, the Antigo school district staff and community support from groups like Antigo Community Theater and Antigo High School drama department,” co-director Leigh Brown added.

In the musical, Captain Invisible, Freeze Frame, The Green Pen, and Info Blast are superheroes with a few problems. Their superpowers are sketchy, their sidekicks are avoiding them, and they’ve been flagged by the ISS (International Society for Superheroes, of course) as “not mixing well with the general population.”

Fortunately, their advisors at the ISS want to help them improve, sending them on a quest to master people skills. With the help of human beings all over the city, they’ll learn the importance of using social skills to get along with others. Will the superheroes succeed on their quest? Will their sidekicks return? Come and find out.

The cast includes Grace Baginski, Captain Invisible; Lennon Ebel as Ben, her sidekick; Jocie Hayek, Freeze Frame; Breanna Tarras, Meredith, her sidekick; Stella Quinn, Green Pen; Devyn Jaraczewski, Kyle, her sidekick; Abi Lewandowski, Info Blast; Katie Siudak, Advisor Ashlynn; Alexis Musolff, Advisor Alexandra; Megan Schmidt, Advisor Allison.

The Marching Band: Drum Major Phil, Colden Carley; Trumpet Player Billy, Simon McPhail, Clarinet Player Skyler-, Bailey Novy; Trombone Player Mike, Alex Wolf.

Chefs: Sous Chef Chase, Kelly Cooper; Pastry Chef Penelope, Graciana DeWan; Line Cook Lizzy, Chloe Knapkavage.

Store Clerks: Chloe, Michaela Tomczyk; Crysty, McKenzie Zaverousky.
