Splash-N-Dash Saturday
space
Langlade County’s Veterans Memorial Park will host the second annual Splash-N-Dash, a unique silent sports event that showcases the rugged and scenic terrain of the park’s trails and lakes, Saturday.

Considered an aquathon, Splash-N-Dash features a continuous, two-stage race involving swimming followed by running. First wave competitors begin at 8:30 a.m., with racers starting in five minute waves after. Racers can choose to participate in the long course, which is a half-mile swim and 5 kilometer run or the short course which includes a quarter-mile swim and 5K run. Racers can also choose to register as a tandem team, with one racer swimming and one racer running. Tandem teams can be male, female or mixed.

The swim portion is an “out and back” on the spring-fed, pristine, crystal clear Jack Lake. The run segment will take participants to the single track nature trail, over a wooden foot bridge, around Game Lake to finish on logging trails.

Safety boaters will be lined up every 25 yards and there will be trail volunteers throughout the entire run segment. Once racers cross the finish line they can sign up for a massage for a minimal fee.

Proceeds from the Splash-N-Dash are used to support the Antigo Swim Club and the Antigo High School swim team. Additionally, proceeds are also used to support low-income families wanting to have a child participate in the club.

Part of what makes this event special is the location. Located 15 miles north of Antigo, Veterans Memorial Park includes 48 individual camping sites with electrical hook-ups as well as one rustic cabin. It is pet friendly, has a newer shower facility, firewood and ice sales, boat rentals, volleyball and basketball courts, disk golf, boat rentals and RV dumping station.
