Fourth festivities capped Saturday
space
The Fourth of July holiday ended with plenty of salutes on Saturday evening.

Fireworks were exploding in a number of communities and villages from another huge celebration of Independence Day.

The Fourth landed this year on Friday creating a number of options for communities and their celebrations. There was quite a party in Birnamwood on Thursday, a very nice parade in Antigo and fireworks in a number of communities Friday evening, and then the finale came Saturday.

The White Lake parade and festival were quite a way to cap the annual celebration.

The day got an early start with the Possum Run at 7:30 a.m. and the 10K event followed at 8:15 a.m., drawing another tremendous field of runners.

While the runners were on the road, the rest of the community was preparing food, chilling sodas and beer and roasting corn.

The pavilion was absolutely packed with people after the parade and there were lines everywhere. It took a few minutes to get an ear of corn, the work of the firefighters from the Wolf River Fire Department, but it was very good once you had it, and hundreds left with an assortment of bakery prepared by members at the Four Corners Assembly of God Church.

The event, which is what a small-town celebration should be, brings former residents home and quite a number were in the parade with their family banners mixed with dozens and dozens of floats for youth baseball teams and several antique tractors.

The White Lake High School Band led the parade followed by a substantial gathering of military men and women for the color guard.

As in other communities, the evening was capped with a fireworks show, and the crowd for that extravaganza is stunning.
