On Monday evening, the fate of the Little League Championship Game was decided. The Mudhens will go on to face the Boxcars tonight in the deciding game, and here is how they arrived there.

The Boxcars defeated the Lugnuts 8-6 to seal up their semi-final playoff round in a game that saw Ben Wesolowski bat a perfect 3-3 that included two doubles.

Malik Brisby and Wes Ebel each had two hits in the win, while teammate Alex Samolinski finished 1-2.

The Lugnuts' pitching staff included Henry Berger, Jake Peterson and Roland Jenkins. The three young men each threw two innings of work, combining for 10 strikeouts.

Offensively, Marvin Duchac finished his final game of the season for the Lugnuts 2-3 with two runs scored. In addition, Peterson was 1-2 from the plate.

Mudhens move on

In the other championship-determining game of Monday, the Mudhens defeated the Scrappers in end of the season shutout fashion 9-0. The Mudhens' pitching staff allowed just one hit in the game to send them onward to the “Big Dance.”

The two-innings apiece rotation of Justin Hockers, Trevin Walbeck, and Dane Fredrickson proved effective against the Scrappers, combining for 10 strikeouts while walking just one batter.

The Mudhens enter the championship after having put on an offensive clinic against the Scrappers. Garrett Husnick, Ryan Zima and Fredrickson all finished 2-3 on the day, while Zima's time at the plate included a triple and two RBIs.

Walbeck was 2-2 with a run batted in and two runs scored. Reed Kuenzli finished 1-2 with three RBIs while Hunter Aiuppy's double allowed another run to score.

The championship game will be held at 5 p.m. at the Little League Diamond.
