Typhoon earn long distance 4-3 win over Red Wave

The Antigo American Legion Post No. 3 baseball team traveled to Menominee, Mich., Tuesday to take on the Red Wave in a Fox River Valley North as the Typhoon returned with a 4-3 victory.

Jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Red Wave scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Adam Nolde and Ryan Woods scored on an RBI single from Matt Hanson. Menominee added another run when Andy Estrada scored on a sacrifice fly from Nolde.

Menominee starter Mason Kewley held Antigo scoreless until the fifth inning when Caleb Raddant scored on a RBI single from Blake Below. After a pitching change, Menominee reliever Mark Pulver got a lineout to third base to end the inning and the Antigo scoring threat.

Antigo was able to score three times in the sixth. Bryce Chrudimsky and Luke Osborne rounded the bags on wild pitches while Justen Wegter drove in Erik Schielke on a RBI double.

With the Red Wave threatening in the seventh, Below took the mound for Antigo and forced a pair of ground ball outs to end the game and preserve the 4-3 victory.

Wegter started on the mound for the Typhoon and lasted 3 and 2/3 innings allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk, he struck out two. Jesse Homp was the winning pitcher, throwing 3 and 1/3 innings of relief without giving up a hit while walking a pair and striking out two.

Wegter led Antigo at the plate with two hits including a double. Rob Bastle also recorded a double, while Homp, Below, Caleb Raddant, Max Nowinsky, and Chrudimsky contributed with base hits. 

Nolde lead Menominee with two hits.

 With the win, Antigo improves to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the Fox River Valley North.
