Public celebration Thursday evening at the park with sausages and music
space
There will be a grand celebration in City Park on Thursday, great music and food, and a healthy dose of patriotic fervor.

The annual picnic in the park will feature music by the show band Hip Pocket, a popular regional act featuring Antigo’s own Joe Fittante.

The event, which annually draws an exceptionally large crowd of diners and dancers, will again feature sausages donated by Salm Partners, potato chips donated by Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association, baked beans prepared by Dixie Lunch, buns from Butch’s SuperValu, and pickles and sauerkraut from Lakeside Market. The Antigo Penguins Swim Club will be serving pies and the Optimists will have their cheese curd wagon on-site.

“Lots of volunteers will be grilling sausages and serving the picnic for over 1,000 people with very little wait in line,” Nick Salm, who handles publicity for the event, said. Look for the donation cooler under the Salvation Army tent for the starting line.

Free will offerings will be accepted for the picnic, which will also help fund 2015 Music in the Park concerts.

Salm said that Fittante and Hip Pocket have lined up a great celebration for Independence Day, including patriotic songs by Of Chorus!, Presentation of the colors by Boy Scouts, the national anthem sung by Daniel Bradley and a short veteran tribute by Mike Thompson along with great music all evening. Ray Szmanda will do the color commentary.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. On the slight chance of rain, the multi-purpose building at the fairgrounds has been reserved as a backup location.
