Commencement at AHS is Sunday
space
Antigo High School will holds its spring commencement exercises—which is traditionally filled with pomp and circumstance, music and a bit of fun—Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Sheldon Fieldhouse.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to 1993 graduate Jeremy Doucette, who honed his theatrical and design skills in high school and went on to earn a master of fine arts in design at Rutgers University. Now based in New York City, Doucette has won numerous awards worldwide for his set designs, but returns home on occasion to help with local productions. He is also co-chair of L.A. Arts, with a goal of establishing a non-profit arts center in Antigo.

Doucette will receive his award from Dr. Don Childs, interim district administrator.

The list of student honorees will be led by Joseph Reineke, the class valedictorian, and Alexandra Falk, salutatorian. Welcoming remarks are planned by Morgan Burkhart, senior class president.

Master of ceremonies will be Ellie Payant, junior class president.

There will be several interludes that will reflect the musical legacies of the class. Senior choir members will sing the national anthem and the AHS Combined Choirs will perform “May It Be.”

The Golden A’s, signifying top academic achievement, will be presented by Principal Tom Zamzow. Natasha Voytovich, vice-president of the National Honor Society, will recite the names of seniors in that scholastic organization and Amy Dahms, dean of students, will present the top quarter of the class.

Members of the board of education will present diplomas.

The ceremony will conclude with the traditional finale, with the new graduates turning the tassels on their caps signifying the end of one chapter in their lives and the beginning of another. Burkhart, joined by Cassius Noskowiak, vice-president, Brittany Wald, secretary, and Steph Hanke, treasurer, will lead their classmates.

Following the program, friends and family are invited to congratulate the graduates in the commons or outside, weather permitting.
