Commencement Saturday for Elcho's graduates|
|Elcho High School will hold commencement ceremonies for 32 seniors on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. in the school gymnasium.|
Valedictorian is Bruce “BJ” McKinney of Deerbrook.
On top of his hard work in academics, McKinney has played basketball and baseball, serving as captain of both, participated in Students Against Destructive Behavior and played percussion in the band. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Salutatorian is Bobbi Schauer, daughter of Travis Schauer and Tina Stevens.
Schauer has been a three-sport athlete throughout high school, lettering in volleyball for three years and in softball and basketball for four years. She is also active in band, forensics, and SADD, is president of the National Honor Society, and has participated for two summers in the Upward Bound Program.
Schauer plans to attend Nicolet Area Technical College in Rhinelander and hopes to pursue a career as an emergency room physician.
The class has chosen Mary Brendemuehl, the band and choir instructor, to be the commencement speaker.
Other teachers chosen to participate by the class in varying capacities are Louise Allen, Monica Glander, Thomas Prahl, Dan Strand and Amber Traska.
The class has chosen a quote from George Bernard Shaw, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself,” as its motto. Class colors are purple and silver while the class flower is the purple rose.
