Lady Robins close regular season with fun with vs. Athens|
The Robins' Kendall Nagel and her decisive two-home run day led Antigo to an 8-6 victory over Athens Wednesday evening.
Nagel began her night with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Robins a short lived 1-0 lead.
Giving up three runs in the top of the second, Antigo pitcher Alison Kondzela did not lose her stride for the remainder of her outing at the mound.
Kara Wilhelm's (1-3) two-run homer in the third added to Antigo's four total scores produced in the inning, helping the Robins regain the lead 5-4.
Allowing solitary runs in the fourth and seventh innings, Kondzela gave the Lady Robins a fighting chance to win.
When all was said and done, Kondzela finished her afternoon having allowed 11 hits and six runs (four earned) while walking one Athens batter and striking out five.
Three more Antigo runs in the bottom of the six, including a Wilhelm walk to bring in Kaitlyn Kondzela for the winning run, guaranteed victory for the Lady Robins.
Alex Falk had a quietly perfect day amongst her fence-clearing teammates, batting 3-3 with a double, two singles, an RBI and a run scored.
Laurissa Belott also batted .1000, hitting for two singles for two runs batted in while taking one walk.
K. Nagel and K. Kondzela each finished their day 2-3. K. Nagel's performance was highlighted by her two home runs, in addition to two RBIs and three runs scored against Athens.
"Very fun game to be a part of," Lady Robins' Coach Sandi Robrecht said. "Athens won their conference and are the second ranked team in all of Division Four."
The evening was capped off by honoring the senior members of the team. They are Alex Falk, Brittany Beckingham, Katelyn Kondzela, Brittney Wald, Shania Williams and Kendall Nagel.
The Lady Robins begin tournament play tonight as they host Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 5 p.m. at Lake Park.
