The Chargers dominated the links Monday evening at the Golden Sands Golf Course in an invitational hosted by Bonduel. Seeing themselves to the top of team leaderboard, different faces of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood team found themselves amongst the day’s best individuals.

The Chargers took first place with a team score of 358, outlasting second place Gresham by eight strokes (366) Bonduel (371), Weyauwega-Fremont (377) and Oconto (377) all finished with sub-400 team rounds, while Amherst (422), Iola-Scandinavia (444) and Marion (458) found themselves in the bottom half of the team results. Menominee Indian did not qualify.

“This was a great way to follow up our first place finish over the weekend,” Coach Chris Bartletti said Monday. “We have had two of our best rounds within the last three days and that is encouraging heading into the all-conference meet on Thursday and, as importantly, into regionals next week.”

Kyle Adamski led all other Chargers, coming into the clubhouse with a score of 85 and tying for third place amongst best individual rounds.

Maverick Bushman and Brant Linke each finished the day with scores of 90 strokes. Gavin Czerwonka was close behind with 93, one of his best finishes of the year and very timely in aiding in the Chargers team win. Bartletti later commented on the ensuing drama.

“Kyle came up big again leading the team for the second straight event and Maverick and Brant both played decently, but both would be the first to say that they are capable of doing better. Gavin was outstanding by coming in with one of his best rounds of the season with a little dramatics as many teams were waiting for that final score to see where we would all place,” he said.

Madi Bushman finishes her day with a round of 111 in her valiant effort playing at such a high level.

“Madi is still learning to play at the varsity level, but has a resilient attitude and will bounce back next time,” her coach said.
