Rob Bastle homers to spark Robin hit attack in 12-3 win
space
The Red Robin varsity baseball team continued to do what it has been doing all season long: scoring runs. A lot of runs. On Monday evening, the crew did just that, beating Mosinee on the road 12-3.

“It was another solid game,” Coach Dan Bastle said. “Mosinee is a very good team. Again, the top of our order was solid.”

Randy Krebs, batting first, reached first base on a walk but was picked off trying to steal second base. Antigo’s thunder was not spoiled, however, as second batter Rob Bastle got things started early for the solid top of the order with a solo home run.

“Rob was seeing the ball extremely well, going 3-5 and starting us out with a home

run,” his coach said.

A two-run second inning with scores from Bryce Chrudimsky and Luke Osborne gave the Robins a three-run lead going into the bottom of the inning. With a single and back-to-back Mosinee doubles in the bottom of the second, the Indians scored two runs and crawled back into the game down by one.

The fifth inning was the moment Antigo had been waiting for. Still clinging to a 3-2 lead, the bottom of the order, including Max Nowinsky pinch hitting for Cassius Noskowiak, scored four runs to put the game nearly out of Mosinee’s reach.

The Indians did manage to score a single run in the bottom of the fifth, but the 7-3 Robins’ lead proved enough to hold up, and then some.

The Robins scored three more in the top of the sixth inning, including a Chrudimsky home run. The young catcher had a notable evening, as his coach said later, “Bryce was awesome tonight as well. He threw out a base runner and hit extremely well.”

A late Blake Kirsch two-run homer in the seventh guaranteed the night cap to the evening.

Josh Hale started the game for Antigo, pitching two innings with one strikeout and two runs. Cam Noskowiak took over at the mound for middle relief, pitching 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and one earned run. Closer Kirsch game in with two outs in the sixth, and finished the game allowing no hits.

“Our pitchers did really well,” Bastle said. “(Our offense) scored a lot of runs with two outs which was the difference. Cam was really good tonight and Blake came alive late. Cam threw strikes and forced their hands.”

Antigo will play next at Medford this evening at 5 p.m.
