Antigo’s junior varsity baseball team got the same chance to enjoy home field on Tuesday night as their varsity counterparts. The Robins JV1 team tied the Tomahawk Hatchets 2-2 in an abridged five inning game.

Arin VerHagen, who made a mound appearance at the varsity level already this year, pitched five solid innings. The sophomore struck out five batters and walked only one.

Jake Husnick led all Robin batters with two hits, including a double and a single.

Elijah Wickersheim tripled in the fifth for his only hit, while Cody Below also had one hit for a double.

Alex Nagel, Max Nowinsky and Nick Greening each had singles on the afternoon. Antigo left eight runners on base in the tie with the Hatchets.

Antigo’s JV2 team, playing on the Senior League field, also ended its game with the Hatchets on a 2-2 tie.

Collin Meinert went four strong innings on the mound, giving up only two runs with no walks and 11 strike outs. Cody Below served as relief, pitching a scoreless fifth inning.

“We struggled to hit the ball with runners in scoring position,” Coach Joshua Krueger explained.

On Monday, the JV2 team lost a tough battle to D.C. Everest 9-8.

“Despite a solid relief pitching performance by Jesse Jankowski and a late rally by the offense, we lost a close one,” Krueger said.

Hunter Kirsch and Braxton Resch also took turns on the mound, pitching one inning each.
