Winter Fun, Wellness Day set for Sunday at Peaceful Valley Park

The Antigo Park and Recreation Department, with help from area businesses and organizations, is bringing a bit of the Olympic flair to Peaceful Valley Park on Sunday.

Winter Fun and Wellness Day, a community collaboration that promises to be a great way to conquer the cold-weather blues, will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

“The event is Olympic-themed and focused on getting families outside in the winter; enjoying some fun outdoor activities,” Sarah Repp, Antigo’s park and recreation director, said. “Participants will also have the ability to warm-up in the Peaceful Valley Warming House and enjoy some healthy food.

“The parks department has been working on the different event sites within the park to get everything ready for the big day,” Repp said.

The event is sponsored by the city in conjunction with Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness, Langlade Occupational Health, the Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County, Lakeside Pharmacy & Grocery and the Kiwanis Club.

All activities, events and food are free.

“Cornerstone Chiropractic has been busy getting giveaway bags ready for the event,” Repp said. “The bags will have fun activity items and local business coupons and information. Langlade Occupational Health will be serving healthy food and volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club, Economic Development Corporation, Cornerstone Chiropractic, 4K, and Langlade Occupational Health will be ready to help the day of the event.”

The fun will include bobsled and luge, big bat baseball/kickball, ice puck curling, turkey bowling, courtesy of Lakeside Market, ice skating, speed sledding, sculpture competition and a snow angel and snow painting competition. Brandt’s Sleigh Rides will also be on the grounds.

There will be a bonfire blazing, perfect for roasting marshmallows. Drinks will include hot chocolate, cider and coffee.

The first 75 youths at the event will receive a free prize, There will also be a drawing for gold, silver and bronze baskets filled with local goods and coupons.
