25-ton weight limit placed on Pearson bridge
space
The Langlade County Highway Department has posted a 25-ton weight restriction on the County Highway T bridge over the Wolf River, just west of Pearson.

During a scheduled routine check, the county's certified bridge i

nspector found significant corrosion on steel piles which support the bridge deck, and an engineering firm performed structural analysis to determine the effect on the capacity of the structure.

The 25-ton restriction will remain in place until the bridge is repaired or replaced.

All local bridges are designed to carry, at a minimum, normal 80,000 pounds maximum weight vehicles, as well as heavier loads allowed for certain industries during certain times of the year. Weight restrictions are posted when a bridge's capacity is lower than the legal weight limit for the road.

All of Wisconsin's 14,600 bridges are inspected at least every two years, in accordance with Federal Highway Administration standards, under coordination of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Inspection programs are designed to preserve structural safety by identifying any problems at an early date, and allowing for timely repair or replacement of the structure.

The Langlade County Highway Department manages the inspection program for 27 bridges on the county highway system, and 38 bridges on town roads. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation manages the program for the 11 state highway bridges located in Langlade County.
