Bartletti, Kubacki, Schmidt lead Robins to 4-0 shutout|
It was the one-two punch of Brian Bartletti and Joe Kubacki who gave the Robins its 4-0 road win over Lakeland Tuesday giving goalie Ryan Schmidt a well earned shutout.
Retaining their No. 8 state ranking, the Red Robin boys hockey team holds an impressive 13-1-2 overall record, 7-1 in the Great Northern Conference.
“Brian Bartletti and his line mates contributed solid play tonight with Brian leading the way on the scoreboard with two grinding goals,” Antigo coach Matt Borneman stated. “Kubacki also put in two goals, as well as his line having solid starts to all three periods setting the tone.
“Ryan Schmidt earned his shutout tonight, as he denied multiple high percentage scoring opportunities,” he added.
Bartletti opened up scoring at 5:18 as he was assisted by Arin VerHagen on the even strength shot. Kubacki notched his first of the night 24 seconds into the second period after being fed the puck by Jackson Charlesworth and Bailey Olson.
Antigo dynamic duo secured the victory with a pair of late goals in the third period. Both being shorthanded goals, Bartletti split the pipes at 11:23 while Kubacki’s slipped past T-Birds net minder Alex Moustakis at 15:34. Elijah Wickersheim and Zack Levis provided the assistance.
Schmidt had an easy night compared to Moustakis and he recorded 15 saves in 51 minutes of play. The Red Robin skaters were aggressive in firing a total of 45 shots a Lakeland’s goalie.
Antigo's Junior Varsity team also earned a 4-0 win over Lakeland.
