Second-half surge give Robins 48-44 win over Lakeland
space
Knotted up in the middle of the Great Northern Conference is not such a bad place to be as the Red Robins visited Lakeland Friday. Each team walked off the court with identical 3-2 records in league play. In order for Antigo to make this happen, they needed a win, and they got just that, defeating the T-birds 48-44.

The two teams trail undefeated 5-0 Rhinelander in the standings and 3-1 Mosinee, while Medford hangs at 2-3, Northland Pines is looking for its first win at 0-3 and Tomahawk soaks up the bottom at 0-5.

Thunderbird coach Rich Fortier has his team well prepared as Lakeland stepped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead. Antigo played catch-up in the second period as it was unable to shrink the margin. Each team posted eight points as Lakeland took a 22-18 score into the locker room.

A motivating half time speech by Shaw lit a fire under the Antigo squad as the Robins took over the game, out-shooting its host 12-6 in the third quarter.

Coming down the stretch, Antigo did all it could to hang on to the lead as the T-Birds were able to bring it to a one possession game. Continually sending Antigo’s leading scorer, Cassius Noskowiak (16 points) to the line, Lakeland hoped for the opportunity to grab a victory.

But Noskowiak was staunch in his delivery at the line, hitting eight of eight attempts throughout the course of the night to keep the T-Birds at bay.

Blake Below followed in second for the Robins with 12 points while Jake Lund had 10. Lakeland’s scoring was a little less spread out with Tom Bruckner taking the top spot with 15 points and Brad Holcombe with 12.

Antigo (8-2 overall) continues its road game stretch as it travels to Chippewa Falls Tuesday and Tomahawk Friday.
