The Antigo varsity boys hockey team traveled to Tomahawk Saturday for a make-up conference game, routing the Hatchets 15-1.

The Robins scored seven first period goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Blake Kirsch marked the first barrage of pucks sent past Hatchets’ goalie, Dan Hanke a mere 10 seconds into the contest. Kirsch was assisted by Bailey Olson and Joe Kubacki. Waiting until the 2:59 mark, Alex Nagel slipped his shot past with assists from Elijah Wickersheim and Tyler Husnick.

The goals kept coming afterwards with Wickersheim being fed by Zack Levis and Nagel. Jed Weix took advantage of assistance by Nagel and Matt Wolter at the 11:49 mark, with Kyle West (Wickersheim) giving the Robins its seventh point of the period.

Tomahawk’s Cole Hoeppner managed to score the lone Hatchet goal at 16:16, ending the period 7-1.

“It was good to see our starters take care of business early and then get contributions throughout the entire bench,” coach Matt Borneman said.

In the second period, Arin VerHagen hit the net at 3:01 with assists by Husnick and West. Twenty-five seconds later, Ben Jansen scored with assists by Husnick and VerHagen and 23 seconds after that, Kubacki scored with an assist from Jackson Charlesworth.

Taking advantage of a power play, Kubacki hit the back of the net with an assist from Wolter and Charlesworth. West scored again in the second period with assists from Levis and Husnick and the final tally from the Robins was made by Weix (Nagel and Levis) to end the second period with 13-1 in the Robins’ favor.

West started out the third period scoring with a short-handed shot at 10:17. He was assisted by Jansen which gave West a hat trick for the game.

The final Antigo goal was scored by Olson with an assist from Gavin Bunnell to end the game 15-1.

Splitting time, Robins goalies, Ryan Schmidt and Ben Bartletti tallied five and eight saves respectively.
