State-ranked Red Robins ice Raiders with 8-0 shutout
The Antigo boys varsity hockey team traveled to Medford Thursday for a Great Northern Conference game and defeated the Raiders 8-0.

Roughly two minutes in the first period, Kyle West managed to score with an assist by Jackson Charlesworth.

At the 5:15 mark, Zack Levis scored assisted by Charlesworth. Alex Nagel managed to put an unassisted goal past the Raiders goalie and the final goal of the first period was made by Bailey Olson assisted by Levis and Joe Kubacki to end with a lead of 4-0.

In the second period, Antigo managed to score one goal, Blake Kirsch put it in the net at the 3:30 mark with an assist by Olson.

“Our defense stepped up holding the puck in the offensive zone and did a great job taking quality shots and setting up plays. Notably was Levis with a playmaker,” coach Matt Bornemann said. “I am most proud we completed our first game without a penalty.”

The third period was fast paced as the Robins scored yet another three goals.

The first goal was shot by Matt Wolter and assisted by Arin VerHagen, the second goal of the third period was scored again by Wolter unassisted and the final goal was scored by Charlesworth to end the game 8-0.

Starting out in the goal for the Robins, Ryan Schmidt tallied three saves and Ben Bartletti tallied one.

Junior Varsity Win

The JV team also traveled to Medford Thursday and defeated the Raiders 4-0.

In the first period, Cody Below made the first and last goal of the first with an assist by Nate Howard.

The Robins did not score in the second period, but managed to score three in the third period.

Arin VerHagen took advantage of the Robins power play and scored the first goal of the third and was assisted by Andrew Turunen. VerHagen scored again with an assist by Tyler Husnick and taking advantage of another power play, Below scored with an assist by Turunen, ending the game 4-0 in the Robins favor.

Ben Bartletti tallied 14 saves for the Robins.

Antigo is back in action Saturday as they travel to Tomahawk for a previously cancelled game. Play begins at 7:30 p.m.
