Red Robin boys defeat Maroons 64-46 Friday
space
The Christmas and New Year’s break has taken nothing off the Red Robin boys basketball shooting game as the team defeated Menominee, Mich. 64-46 Friday.

“We had a good start to tonight’s game and we came out of half time and really put our foot down, thus shutting the door on a Menominee comeback,” Antigo coach Jesse Shaw said.

Coming out strong, the Robins parlayed a 24-13 lead in the first quarter into a 41-24 half-time advantage.

Blake Below, Jack Lund and Cassius Noskowiak made the three ball look easy as the trio combined for six of the Robins 10 3-pointers in the first segment of action.

Although Antigo’s scoring cooled in the second half, the Maroons’ majority of 22 points in the third and fourth quarters came at the charity stripe. Overall Menominee made 18 total trips in the game, converting on 13 of their attempts.

Cassius Noskowiak led the Robins with 21 points, shooting 57 percent from the floor. Below followed with 13 while Cameron Noskowiak and Jack Lund added 12 apiece.

“We had some very balanced scoring,” Shaw noted. “Four players were in double figures for the game which indicates that we were unselfish and moved the ball well on offense.”

The Maroons’ Tyler Howell and Adam Nolde led the team with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Just as the temperatures are dropping outside, so did Antigo’s shooting in the second half as they put up 19 points to Menominee’s 13 in the third quarter while the guests out shot their host 9-4 in the fourth.

“Our defense was rusty tonight coming off Christmas break,” the coach said. “We struggled sprinting back on defense, and containing the penetrating guards.”

Even with the rust, Antigo grabbed 22 defensive rebounds throughout the contest with Cassius Noskowiak and Justin Hickman leading the squad.

Antigo will swing into full action as its schedule picks up next week.

“We have two very important non-conference games next week as we play at Mosinee on Tuesday and Medford at home on Friday,” Shaw stated.
