Professional athletes from Antigo visiting home for Christmas holiday
space
It’s not easy getting two high school classmates together, much less pro athletes, especially when they play in different sports, but the timing was right as Justin Berg and Joe Piskula came together at the Antigo High School Monday.

The visit was more than just a social event as the pair left behind a piece of memorabilia to be encased just outside the Sheldon Fieldhouse entrance.

Alumni of 2002, Berg has gone on to play in professional baseball being drafted by the New York Yankees before being traded to the Cubs and is currently pitching for the Colorado Rockies.

Piskula prefers the chill of the ice. A former Wisconsin Badger hockey player, Piskula began his NHL career with the L.A. Kings, then Calgary Flames and earlier this year, traded to the Nashville Predators.

The idea to display jerseys was the brainchild of Mike Levis, an Red Robin alum himself, Levis felt it was time to pay a little formal recognition to Berg and Piskula.

“These are two pro athletes in the recent era, and they graduated together. Something that happens very rarely,” Levis said.

Earning approval a few years ago from Antigo’s athletic director, the late Tom Kislow, Levis has been working to coordinate a meeting with the pair to get jerseys hung at the school.

“With their opposing seasons its always been tough, but Christmas this year things fell into place,” he added.
