White Lake board eyes a referendum
space
The White Lake board of education may be asking taxpayers for more funds.

At its regular monthly meeting this week, the board discussed conducting an operating referendum in April, and may seek up to $250,000 annually for three years above state-cost controls.

District Administrator Bill Fisher said no decision has been made, but some action is likely in January.

“We had a great talk,” Fisher said.

The district is in the final months of a three-year plan that allowed it to spend $200,000 above state-imposed limits annually. That money has been used to maintain programs.

Fisher said that the district floated its first successful revenue-limit exemption in 2001, with voters approving them since. The amounts have ranged from $200,000 to $250,000 annually for three to five years.

“This would be a continuation of what we’ve had going back to 2001,” the administrator said.

Fisher added that the district is upbeat, with completion of a building and remodeling project that included a new gymnasium and fitness center and a stable, and even growing, enrollment.

In other business, the board adopted policies relating to the election of board officers, legal counsel, board policies and duties and governance.

The panel approved the resignation of Dora Szemborski, a business education teacher White Lake shares with Elcho, and review a variety of administrative reports, including from the principal/special education director, guidance counselor, school nurse and district administrator.

Information items included discussion on personalized learning, the food service program, a teacher presentation by Lois Later and resolutions for the annual Wisconsin Association of School Boards convention in January.
