space
It was not difficult for the Red Robin boys basketball team to reach a 6-0 overall record Friday as it host Northland Pines in a Great Northern Conference tilt at the Robins handily won 61-22.

Riding the coattails of Cassius Noskowiak with 22 points and Blake Below with 14, Antigo got off to a roaring start going up 29-11 in the first half. The dynamic duo rained four three point shots as Below compiled 12 of his point in the first two quarters.

Noskowiak had his best eight minutes of the night in the third as he drained three treys making up the majority of his 14 points in the period.

The Robins came out on fire after the intermission going on a shooting spree of 24 points while its defense limited Pines to two.

“We were able to come out in the third quarter and really put our foot down tonight,” Antigo coach Jesse Shaw said. “Out-scoring Pines 24-2 was a very good eight minute stretch of basketball.

“Cassius had the best game of the season so far on offense and defense. He hit his shots when he was open and passed the ball when his teammates were open. He had numerous deflections on defense combined with four steals,” he added.

Sitting back a little in the fourth, Antigo was out scored by the Eagles 9-8. Even with the down period, the Robins had the win well within its grasp.

On the boards, Jack Lund led the team with nine rebounds, providing three second looks. Below grabbed seven for the home team.

“Although stagnant at times, our offense was able to become more patient in the second half which allowed us to find the open man,” Shaw added. “We out-rebounded Pines and had less than 10 turnovers which was a goal of ours before the game.”

Antigo will amp up its game heading into next week as it faces defending conference champions Rhinelander on Tuesday in Rhinelander. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
