Laker boys getting off to rough hoops start
space
Falling to 3-0 on the season, the White Lake boys basketball team traveled to Marinette in facing Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Cavaliers defeated the Lakers 78-40.

"STAA had some really skilled players in a tough M&O conference,” White Lake head coach Jason Chitwood said. “Our guys really stepped it up. You can’t tell by the score but this was by far our best game of the season.”

“We really played with heart and are getting better. From top to bottom, I am really proud of the intensity we played with,” he added.

Dylan Korvela led the Lakers with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Coach credits Matt Bowman’s efforts coming off the bench along with the team’s defense being much more active. Chitwood felt the squad’s press break ran smooth at times as well.

Versus Bowler

A win was not in the cards for the Laker boys as the team traveled to Bowler on Monday. The Panthers pounced on White Lake to ride a 48-12 half-time score all the way to a 67-22 win.

"We scored more than the last game,” Chitwood said. “I saw some very good passing by our players. We still have a lot of improving to do on defense, it's hard to be competitive when you give up 32 first quarter points."

Leading the two teams in points were Bowler’s Thomas Kazik and Chase Nueske with 12 points apiece. Cody Montez had 11 while Trae Opper added eight.

For White Lake, Camron Frederick had eight, Angelo Barron had four, Travis Guy three, Korvela, Jake Wegner and Brian Greengrass each added two apiece and Bowman contributed a bucket.

In rebounding, Deon Banks grabbed six loose balls for White Lake while Pat Piotrowski and Barron pulled down five each.

The White Lake boys will host Three Lakes on Monday in a 6:45 p.m. contest.
