Ecumenical Thanksgiving service set, churches to worship, dinner to be served

The area’s annual ecumenical worship service, along with a community dinner in Pearson, will mark this week of Thanksgiving across the northwoods.

St. John Catholic Church will host the region’s annual ecumenical Thanksgiving worship service on Wednesday, featuring clergy from a variety of local congregations and open to all.

The service will be held at 7 p.m.

Participating clergy include Deacon Andy Bures, St. Wencel, SS. Mary & Hyacinth, and St. John; Rev. Alvan Amadi, St. John, SS. Mary & Hyacinth, and St. Wencel; Rev. Karen Tews, Calvary Lutheran; Rev. Charles Hoffmann, St. Joseph Holy Family; Rev. Wes A. Jedras, Faith United Church of Christ;

Rev. Debbie Pimm, Antigo United Methodist; Rev. Nancy Richmond, St. John and Arbutus Lutheran Churches; Rev. David Schmidt, St. John, SS. Mary & Hyacinth, and St. Wencel; and Rev. Jeremiah Worman, senior priest of the Green Bay Diocese.

On Thursday, Arbutus Lutheran Church in Pearson will host a community Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving worship begins at 10:30 a.m. at the church, located just off Highway 55 near County T. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge for the meal and a freewill offerings support the church Local Needs Fund and the Elcho Food Pantry.

Other churches have also planned mid-week services and programs to offer thanksgiving. A look follows:

ANIWA: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.

BIRNAMWOOD: St. John Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.; St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.

ELCHO: St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7 p.m. with communion.

GLEASON: Luther Memorial Church, 7 p.m. followed by a traditional pie social.

MATTOON: St. John Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.

PELICAN LAKE: St. John Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.

POLAR: St. Peter Lutheran Church, 7:30 p.m. with communion.

TOWNSEND: St. John Lutheran Church, 5:30 p.m.

WABENO: Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 p.m.

WHITE LAKE: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.

WITTENBERG: St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6:30 p.m.
