Multi-sport athlete Josh Hale has made Antigo High School football history.

Hale became the first Antigo player to be selected for three first team positions on the 2013 All Great Northern Conference teams. He was a unanimous choice tight end on the offensive unit, was All-Conference defensive lineman and was named the All-League punter.

He was joined on the first squad by teammates running back Jake Maly and lineman Blake Kirsch on offense and defensive back Matt Wolter, who also was the Red Robins quarterback.

AHS players named to the All-GNC second team were offensive lineman Garrett Grabowsky, defensive lineman Wyatt Franzen and linebackers Ryan Fassbender and Bryce Chrudimsky. Aeric Berner received honorable mention.

Hale, who is also a baseball standout and who competed in track last spring, was an outstanding pass receiver and blocker for the Red Robins in 2013. He caught 17 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns. The 6-3, 240 pound senior caught TD strikes of 81 yards against Lakeland, 59 yards against Rhinelander and 50 yards against Merrill.

Maly, a 5-7 senior running back, rushed for 705 yards in 143 carries and scored seven touchdowns.

Hale and Wolter are first team repeaters from the 2012 All-Conference team.

At a recent Antigo Gridiron Club banquet, coach Matt Weberpal named Players of the Year, Maly on offense, Fassbender on defense, Hale on special teams and Jed Weix on the scout team.

In addition to All-Conference honors, Hale was selected the Channel 7 All-Star punter and he, Maly, Kirsch and Wolter were All-Region nominees, Hale on offense and special teams. Maly and Kirsch on offense and Wolter on defense.
