space
The late Tom Kislow, who served as athletic director at Antigo High School prior to his death in 2012, will be remembered during a girls’ basketball tournament scheduled to be held at Antigo’s Sheldon Fieldhouse Nov. 29-30.

The TK Memorial Tournament, officially known as Blow the Whistle on Cancer, is being organized by the participating schools in affiliation with Kislow’s family and former basketball officiating crew in memory of Kislow who lost his battle with stage four lung cancer on March 2, 2012.

“We encourage people to attend,” Red Robin head coach Dennis Duchac said. “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.”

Game officials at the event will donate their game checks to charity in support of The V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Tom Kislow Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In addition, many local, state and national sponors will have silent auction items available for bidding when the doors open. Fans may also choose to participate in a 50/50 cash raffle or make monetary contributions which are tax deductible.

“For those of us who knew Tom well, the last year and a half have been difficult,” said Daryl Pries, a WIAA and NCAA basketball official and coordinator of the event. “So many people struggle to understand why they or a loved one suffers from this terrible disease.

“Tom’s family lost their leader, the Antigo community lost a great educator, the WIAA lost an experienced official and the world lost a great person,” he added. “This event will keep Tom’s spirit alive while stressing the importance of cancer research. The scientists funded by The V Foundation are the best in the world. They never give up trying to find a cure and we can’t give up supporting them.”

Friday’s schedule features a 5 p.m. matchup between D.C. Everest and Rhinelander. Antigo will challenge Wausau West starting at 7:15 p.m.

The tourney will continue on Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest between Wausau West and Rhinelander. Antigo will play D. C. Everest at 5:15 p.m.
