Antigo prep bowling teams kick off season with success

The Antigo High School and Middle School bowling teams have kicked off their 2013-14 season.

The varsity Robins traveled to Weston Lanes on Sunday, challenging several squads in a nine-baker game format in a challenging “blue” pattern sports shot.

The girls team, coached by Bill McFarlane, won both of its matches including in its opener versus D.C. Everest J.V. which Antigo won 7-2. Posting a 151 average, the squad shot a high game of 169.

Theresa Webb led the team with an 83.3 percent fill rate featuring four strikes, six spares and two opens. Allivia Zoern had a 81.8 percent fill rate (two strikes, seven spares and two opens while Hailey Robinson had a 66.7 percent fill rate (four strikes, four spares and four opens).

The Red Robin ladies also defeated Rhinelander/Three Lakes 6–3, with a high game of 189 and a 162 average.

Top performers were Robinson, 76.9 percent fill rate (two strikes, eight spares, three opens); Webb, 73.3 percent (five strikes, six spares, four opens); and Zoern, 73.3 percent (four strikes, seven spares, four opens.)

Other team members Rebecca Duchac, Sarah Doucette, Rachel Rine, Zoe Orgeman, Joy Sieminski and Gabby McCorkle.

The Antigo boys varsity team, coached by Trevor McCarthy, also won both of its matches. On the lead of Nick Arrowood, the Robins defeated D.C. Everest 6-3. The Robins posted a high game of 215 and a 188 average.

Arrowood scored 12 strikes, four spares and left two open to finish with an 88.9 percent fill rate. James Gervais finished at 83.3 percent (12 strikes, three spares, three open) followed by Logan Liebergen, 72.2 percent (10 strikes, three spares, five opens).

Antigo trounced the SPASH J.V. team 9-0 with a high game of 203 and a 178 average. Top bowlers were Collin Schedlbauer, 83.3 percent (nine strikes, six spares, three opens); Liebergen, 83.3 percent (eight strikes, seven spares, three opens); and Arrowood, 83.3 percent (six strikes, nine spares, three opens).

Ryan McCarthy rounds out the varsity crew.

Antigo also brought three Middle School teams to the Weston Lanes.

This year Antigo has 3 Middle School teams:

The Middle School No. 1 team, coached by Rod Schedlbauer, lost its match to Rhinelander/Elcho 7-2.

Top bowlers were Will Kubeny, Ashlea Kreager and Toby Dieck. Other team members are Ben Lewandowski, Keaton Francl, Jacob Fischer and Nick Tatro.

The No. 2 squad beat Wittenberg 8-1, with a high game of 191 and a 167 average. Top bowlers were Jared McFarlane, Chris Arrowood, Kyle Schedlbauer and Mike Zabrowski. Other team members are Luke Hitz and Josh Jones. The team is coached by Tom Kubeny.

The girls Antigo/Bowler team, coached by Rick Fermanich, dropped a 7-2 match to Everest/Horace Mann/John Muir. Antigo had a high game of 176 and averaged 145. Top bowlers were Molly Fermanich, Kendra Rickert, Michaela Jackson, and Lauren Rine. Other team members are Camree Powell and Rylie Kreager.

Antigo will host its next meet at North Star Lanes on Sunday, Nov. 17. The varsity teams will bowl at both 10 a.m. and noon followed by the Middle School at 2 p.m.
