|“Rockin’ Robins—We Will Rock You” is the theme for Antigo High School’s homecoming celebration taking place through Friday.|
Eleven senior boys and 10 senior girls are competing for places on the homecoming court, with the king, queen and four runner-up couples being announced Friday.
The candidates for king include Brandon Bastle, Colin Bastle, Robbie Bastle, Wesley Fick, Josh Hale, Justin Hickman, Blake Kirsch, Randy Krebs, Jacob Maly, Hunter Nicholson and Jacob Zabrowski.
Queen candidates include Breanna Brennecke, Morgan Burkhart, Alex Falk, Chase Gunderson, Steph Hanke, Abby Littlejohn, Maggie McCann, Mikayla Nelson, Chelsea Payant and Brittany Wald.
The court will be announced at pep rally and the winners will ride in the parade beginning at 4 p.m. through the downtown.
The parade will also include a variety of floats, the Antigo High School and Middle School bands, and, new this year, representatives from the Langlade County Boys & Girls Club pushing shopping carts down the avenue collecting canned goods for the Thrivent “Cans” Hunger contest to benefit the Antigo Area Food Pantry. Those donating items will receive tokens for free sundaes from Culver’s of Antigo.
The parade will be followed by the 7 p.m. game pitting the Antigo Red Robins versus the Lakeland T-Birds
A student dance will follow from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. in the high school commons. There will be deejay music and a chance to join in with Northwoods Karaoke. Tickets in advance are $10 per couple and $5 per singles. Tickets at the door are $1 per person higher.
There’s also plenty of entertainment for adults, with Vic Ferrari playing at the Edison Club and Universal Groove at Heaquarters II Friday night. Several AHS classes are also having reunions through the weekend, including 1948, 1993, and 1983.
Homecoming week will also include powder puff football and a community pep rally Thursday.
Games start at 4 p.m. a Schofield Stadium with the championship at 8 p.m. the rally will be held at 7 p.m. and include cheering, class competitions and an appearance by the AHS drumline.
This week also includes a variety of spirit competitions, including “We Will Rock You” on Monday “Four Chords” today, “Welcome to the Jungle” on Wednesday, “Over the Rainbow” Thursday and “Rockin’ Robin” spirit day on Friday. There are lunch games planned throughout the week.
