Antigo Area Weekend Activities|
With Mother Nature bringing a touch of fall-like weather, a slate of activity awaits northwoods visitors and residents for the second weekend of September and beyond.
A look at events, taken from the Journal’s advertising columns, follows:
The Healthy Ways Coalition will host its fourth annual fall walk on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Join in the fun and find hidden pictures along the Springbrook Walkway. The walk will start in the Little League parking lot on Second Avenue. For more information contact the Langlade County Health Department at 627-6250.
The 14th annual Lakes & Leaves Bike Ride will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Summit Lake Park. There are four routes ranging from six to 76 miles.
The Knights of Columbus has bingo every Wednesday night starting at 7:20 p.m. Prizes depend on weekly attendance.
Never Enough tavern will celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day” Saturday, Sept. 21 with music by “Siren.”
Potawatomi Casino at Carter is giving away $2,100 every Tuesday and Wednesday during its Crazy Cash promotion. On Saturday Sept. 21 and 28, win a fast $500 with 15 winners picked every half hour from 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday is bingo day and “livin’ it up at 50” with guests over 50 years of age receiving a free entry into a $100 drawing.
Mohican North Star Casino in Bowler is running daily promotions throughout the month of September. The variety band “Missbehavin” will perform Friday and Saturday nights in the Groove Lounge.
Three shows share the weekend billing at the Palace Twin Theater.
Now showing is “The Butler,” rated PG-13. It is being shown Friday and Saturday 7 and 9:15 p.m., Sunday through Thursday 5:30 and 7:45 p.m.; and a 1:30 p.m. matinee Saturday and Sunday.
“Planes,” rated PG, can be seen Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
“We’re the Millers,” rated R, is showing Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The Antigo Area Youth Hockey Association will have its sign-up night for the upcoming winter season on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the fairgrounds multi-purpose building. While there, check out the great deals on used equipment for all ages during the annual equipment drive. The alternate sign-up date is Oct. 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Riverview Golf Course is offering a fall membership special. Buy a 2014 membership at the 2013 discounted rate and play the remainder of 2013 and all of 2014.
The Bass Lake Country Club is hosting a four-person scramble followed by a barbecue dinner on Saturday, Sept. 28. The cost is $80 per person and includes 18 holes with a cart, dinner and hole prizes.
Adamski’s Sugar Bush is offering syrup by the pound Saturday at the Antigo Farmers’ Market held in the Country Store parking lot from 8 a.m. to noon. Bring clean containers and covers to be filled with pure Wisconsin maple syrup for $3.50 per pound.
A garage/moving sale will continue today through 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at N5120 Johnson Road.
Antiques, bikes and furniture among the items for sale at a garage sale at W9486 County Road D. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The enchanting shops of Lakewood will present Festi-Fall on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Lakewood. There will be artists, artist demonstrations, musicians, wine tasting, antiques, food and lots of fun for all.
The Antigo FFA will host its 11th annual pig roast on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edison Club. The cost is $7 and free for those six and under. Carry-outs are available with all proceeds used to support local FFA activities.
A brat fry to benefit Wishnic, a picnic for childrn with life-threatening injuries, is being held today until 5 p.m. at Antigo Auto on Highway 64 across from Walmart. There will be brats, hamburgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob.
The United Methodist Church in Mattoon is serving a Methodist Buffet on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu includes Swiss steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, noodles, vegetables, dinner rolls, salad bar, assorted desserts and a beverage. Cost is $6 for adults and free for children 6 and under. A worship service will be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
Fifth Avenue Restaurant and Lounge is serving roast duck with raspberry sauce on Saturday starting at 4:30 p.m. The meal includes choice of potato or wild rice and salad bar. Reservations would be appreciated.
Get a Bloody Mary at Rick’s 45 Roadhouse. The tavern is now open at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
Tired of camping and grilling out? Come out to the Cocktail Cage Bar and Lounge/Tomany’s Supper Club off Groth Road in Polar for fish, steak and seafood dinner specials. Serving starts at 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The Elks Lodge is serving an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is only $7 and the dinner is open to the public.
The Antigo High School Class of 1956 will have a dinner get-together Saturday at Swartzendruber’s. There will be a meet-and-greet starting at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
The Antigo High School Class of 1948 will mark its 65th reunion on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Swartzendruber’s. The meet-and-greet will start at 5 p.m. with the dinner to follow at 5:45 p.m.

The town of Peck will host its fall clean-up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town hall at N5702 Ormsby Road.
The Antigo Church of Nazarene at 131 Elm St. will celebrate the grand opening of The Clothes Closet on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends of the late Matthew Mach on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Antigo City Park East.
Help Peace Lutheran School raise funds during its “car show cook-out” on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Take a test drive with Chrysler and the school earns $10.
Tune in Country 106.1 FM to listen to the Wisconsin-Arizona State football game Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Langlade County Airport will host its 10th annual Fly In and Air Show on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Along with the 1 p.m. show, there will be free Young Eagles airplane rides, Nick Salm will be selling his famous waffles and there will be a performance by the Antigo High School Marching Band.
Purchase your tickets now for the Langlade Hospital Auxiliary Parade of Homes set for Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets are available for $8 in advance or $10 the day of the parade at Lakeside Market, the Langlade Hospital volunteer desk, Neve’s Floors to Go and Furniture, Schroeder’s and at the individual homes.
The Langlade County Historical Society is open for viewing Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The historic 440 steam engine may be visited anytime.

Antigo Visual Artists presents “Betsy Popp and the Carvers” in the AVA gallery now through Sept. 28. The exhibition may be viewed during regular Langlade County Historical Society Museum hours, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. The exhibit showcases the work of Betsy Popp, Jim Hubatch, Leif “Bud” Hillsland and Gary Hartl. The opening reception is tonight, 5 to 7 p.m., at the museum.
