Interim administrator hired for school district|
|The Antigo school board Tuesday filled a key administrative vacancy, selecting Dr. Don Childs to serve as interim administrator through June 30, 2014.|
Childs, who most recently served as interim administrator for the Clinton Community School District in southeastern Wisconsin, was selected on a 7-2 vote with Clark Palmer and Jim Schulz opposed.
“In the interviewing he came across as a very capable candidate,” Board President Mike Boldig said, adding that Childs has worked as an interim administrator at a variety of districts over the last several years and, from all reports, did “an exemplary job” at all of them.
“He seems very knowledgeable and straightforward,” Boldig said.
He will begin his duties very quickly, coming to work on Monday, Aug. 26, at an annual salary of $120,000, the same paid to Dr. Steve Smolek, who resigned abruptly in June after under a year on the job.
“We checked with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards for comparable salaries for interims and that is the number they gave us,” Boldig said.
Childs served as administrator of the Lake Mills school district for 10 years and as an interim superintendent in Howard-Suamico, Beaver Dam and Waupun before joining the Clinton school district in June, 2012 for a one-year term. He took that job to fill the vacancy caused by a one-year sabbatical for the school’s administrator. That person has since returned.
The administrative decision was the highlight of an evening of meetings that also included accepting the resignations of Trisha Detert as high school associate principal, effective Aug. 14, and Juli Gauerke as sixth grade skills teacher at the Middle School.
