Winning his third 10K Tater Trot in as many years, Antigo’s Mitch Easker completed the course with at time of 33:42.3 Saturday for the event’s 33rd anniversary.

The normally fun yet grueling course took runners from City Park out into the potato fields east of the city limits. Cool morning temperatures and a mild breeze gave participants almost ideal running conditions although times were nearly a minute off last year’s pace.

Following Easker was Cody Artymiuk, Antigo at 34:42.03; Connor Rafferty, Menominee Falls, 35:46.8; Colin Koss, Bryant, 36:04.0 and Matt Radtke, Merrill, 36:19.0 for the top five male spots.

Claiming the women’s title in 2011, Stephanie Tainter, Antigo took last year off but came in strong Saturday in taking the top female position with a time of 40:00.4.

She was followed by Michaela Waidelich, Antigo at 42:04.5; Meghan Brown, St. Paul, Minn., 45:20.5; Lisa Bauer, Racine, 45:45.3 and Kristin Childs, Elgin, Ill., at 46:48.4.

In the four mile run, Kevin Filtz from Wittenberg crossed the finish line at 24:46.0. Teale Mach of Antigo was second at 25:28.8; Rebecca Salvesen, Hatley third at 29:36.0; Keah Mach, Antigo fourth, 30:40.7 and Broden Bunnell, Antigo fifth at 30:55.1.

Further results from all three events can be found on page two and three of section two.

Melissa Wilhelm, one of the event coordinaters summed up the days events as being “very successful.”

“We have been able to gear this into more of a fun family event,” she said.

Wilhelm also noted the youngest participant was three-year-old Holland Tainter from Antigo, and the oldest pre-registered was Kent Schleinger from Pelican Lake at age 80.

With this year’s 10K, four mile run and one mile walk over, the 34th annual preparations are in the works.
