Benefit for baby set Saturday|
|Everyone is expecting an upbeat benefit Saturday for Castan Schisel, a baby with plenty of medical problems.|
Mike Meidl said Wednesday that things are coming together very nicely for the benefit event, which will be held at Castan’s parents’ establishment, Smitty’s Bar, Saturday afternoon and evening.
The public is urged to attend, enjoy and consider making a gift to the fund that supports Castan’s family during his long battle with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, better known as HLHS.
The son of Ron and Marlena Schisel was born May 21 at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital with the problem, and it has been determined by Milwaukee physicians the only way to fix it is with a different heart.
“He is at the top of the list,” Mike Meidl, who is one of the people who has been working on the benefit and fund-raising said.
HLHS means that the heart does not form normally, and the Schisels knew about the problems during the later stages of Marlena’s pregnancy.
The problem is that the left side of the heart cannot pump oxygen-rich blood to the body, creating very serious situation.
Knowing the trouble loomed
Castan was born in and remains where he is getting world-class care awaiting a donor heart.
He has already undergone several heart surgeries, which occur in stages, and he continues to fight. And now the family and their friends are looking for friends who want to fight along with them.
Smitty’s Bar and Grill will be filled with items to buy, bid on and get tickets to win.
During the afternoon hours, Backwoods Karaoke will be providing the fun and in the evening, Whiskey Nights will be performing its music.
Meidl said there are a quite a number of great items donated to the program including log furniture, four club seats to a Packer game from friends of the Schisels, and offers to mount bear from two local taxidermy outlets.
“There is even a donation of collectibles,” Meidl said.
On Wednesday, Ron, Marlena and Castan’s three sisters, Mekenzie, Morgan and Maddie, were in Milwaukee at the Ronald McDonald House and spending time with their son and brother.
There is a real battle underway, and the public is invited to join on Saturday and have some fun.
