Exhibitors get awards after fair judging
space
Youth and adult exhibitors were awarded for months of hard work Wednesday at the Langlade County Fair.

With the exception of livestock, judging got underway Wednesday on the fairgrounds and stretched throughout the afternoon in the horse arena, multi-purpose building and the tan building known as the bunny barn.

Youth exhibitors participated in face-to-face judging an experience that could be unnerving except for the truly helpful and pleasant group of judges brought in to critique rather than criticize the projects.

By 6 p.m., attention turned to swine judging in the livestock pavilion, an event that can often be compared to a free-for-all on the hoof, with the cool conditions, the animals were frisky and a handful for their young handlers.

This morning, attention returned to the bunny barn for a rabbit show featuring scores of 4-H and open class entries. Beef judging started across the fairgrounds in the livestock pavilion at 10 a.m. and was scheduled to move on to sheep and then pygmy goats and llamas this afternoon.

The carnival rides, including the big new Flying Dutchman, began whirling at 3 p.m., with wristband specials slated this evening from 6 to 11 p.m.

At 4 p.m. comedian/ventriloquist Gary Wick, along with sidekicks Clarence Duck and The Old Man will perform the first of two shows today, with a repeat at 6 p.m.

And at 7 p.m., the Vic Ferrari Band will light up the midway Bud tent in a traditional fair highlight. The show is sponsored by Volm Companies Inc. and CoVantage Credit Union.

Itís almost a fair tradition that it rains on Vic Ferrari night. A noontime check of the hourly forecast indicates there is a chance of showers and maybe a stray storm tonight, but it should be spotty.
