Typhoon falls to tough Tomahawk Legion squad
space
The Antigo Typhoon traveled to Tomahawk Tuesday to take on a team that boasted a 9-0 record and had just won a tournament in Rhinelander.

Strong performances from Randy Krebs on the mound and a red-hot Justen Wegter at the plate weren't enough to overcome Tomahawk.

Tomahawk jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and Antigo wouldn't respond until the third, when singles from Rob Bastle and Wegter set the stage for a sacrifice fly from Blake Kirsch, making the score 3-1.

Krebs had settled into a groove by this point, and did not allow another Tomahawk run until the fifth, when two walks, a hit, and two errors on pick off attempts allowed the score to stretch to 5-1.

Blake Kirsch came in to pitch the sixth, when the Tomahawk's bats ignited, scoring three more runs on four hits. A pinch-hit double from Max Nowinsky in the top of the seventh and another single from Wegter made the final score 8-2.

Wegter once again led the Typhoon in hitting with three singles. In his last five games, he has hit .500 with 6 RBIs. Nowinsky and Kirsch added doubles, and Rob Bastle and Caleb Raddant added a single each.

Krebs pitched a solid five innings for the Typhoon. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six. Kirsch pitched the final frame, allowing three earned on four hits and striking out one.

The Typhoon have a much needed break until July 1, when they travel to Medford.
