Predators retain Antigo's Joe Piskula, signed him to a 1- year contract
space
How serendipitous that Antigo native Joe Piskula would be on the ice Monday when the Nashville Predators made the announcement that they signed the defenseman to a one-year, two-way contract.

Home for the week, Piskula was attending his annual youth hockey camp held in the multi-purpose building at the Langlade Fairgrounds.

“I’m pretty excited to re-sign with Nashville/Milwaukee,” he said. “It’s great to be able to continue to be able to play a game that I love.”

Nashville traded for Piskula in February in a deal with Calgary, and Piskula split the season in the AHL playing 46 games for Abbotsford and 23 games with Milwaukee. Piskula, 28, has played in 10 career NHL games the last five with Calgary in 2011-12.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pound defenseman has played 393 AHL games in six seasons with 74 points and 335 penalty minutes. He helped the Wisconsin Badgers win the 2006 NCAA national championship.

He is a son of Bob and Cindy Piskula.
