Three area students represent Antigo at Pulaski triathlon

Sarah Brahm, Brittney Blasie and Armando Mentrando recently competed at the 3rd annual Goody Triathlon in Pulaski. Attending the Antigo Middle School, these three student athletes took on the course designed by Kare Goodness, an Adapted Physical Education teacher for the Pulaski School District.

The purpose of the event was created to challenge students with disabilities to go beyond the limits others put on them and the limits they put on themselves.

Over a hundred racers, mentors, and school district staff helped with this event which involved a four lap swim in a regulation indoor pool, six miles of biking on roads and the Mountain Bay State Trail, and three miles of running/walking through the community back to the finish line at the high school.

For Brahm, her favorite event was swimming, but said that she enjoyed the whole day. While fellow racers Blasie and Mentrando said the whole day was their favorite.

Antigo Middle School Adapted Physical Education teacher Matt Goodness stated he couldn’t be more proud of these students and the accomplishment this was for all of them.

“It was just amazing to see each student motivated to complete a goal and to cross the finish line. These students have been using the swimming pool, new bikes, and fitness equipment twice a week to train for this event all year,” he noted. “The jump in ability levels of these students is remarkable. I am honored to teach them and inspired to be a healthier person through the work I see them put in for an event like this. It really demonstrates how much we can accomplish when there is a goal in front of us.”
