Bats go silent, Lady Robins lose 6-0
space
Five days after punishing Northland Pines on a resounding 27-0 margin in the first game of the WIAA regional playoffs, the Lady Red Robins returned to the hit box Tuesday and found it empty.

Unable to connect with nearly everything Mosinee’s Rochelle Koshalek tossed at them, the Antigo High School softball team was knocked from tournament play thanks to a 6-0 loss in semi-final action on the Indians’ field.

“It was a disappointing loss,” Sandi Robrecht who co-coaches with Erin Husnick said. “Disappointing because Koshalek pitched well, but we made her look even better than she was. We really struggled with her rise ball and couldn’t lay off it. We were swinging at some really bad balls.”

The ace hurler finished the game with a no-hitter and 16 strike outs with her only walk going to the Robins’ Kendall Nagel in the top of the sixth inning.

“Mosinee is a solid softball team. They had two legit hits and a few bloopers we couldn’t get to,” Robrecht said. “They play good defense and are well coached. They were definitely ready to play.”

Carly Krueger earned Mosinee’s evening batting title, going 2-for-2 including a double with two walks and two RBIs. Koshalek slammed a home run while Aubree Antosch, Kelsey Ludwig and Macee Best all had singles.

Tallying two runs in the first inning, Mosinee added two each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to earn the win.

The game was the finale for four soon-to-be graduates — Zoe Kapusta, Taylor Tatro, Megan Novak and Sarah Schulz.

“We wanted to thank our seniors for their contribution to our program,” Robrecht said. “Zoe and Taylor played three years for us and will be very hard to replace and Megan and Sarah are good kids who worked hard. We wish them all the best in the future.”

With the win, Mosinee advances to Thursday’s regional championships verus Medford. The Raiders earned the spot by defeating Lakeland 18-4 in five innings. Mosinee will host the game.
