April 30, 2013

They say that the best things in life are worth waiting for, that came true for the Antigo girls soccer team as it made its long-awaited season debut Monday. It was hard to tell this was only the girls second time on the field as it hosted Clintonville and secured a 2-0 victory.

“The Antigo girls were truly in sync tonight with astute passing and phenomenal shooting,” Robins head coach Aimee Hein said. “ In fact, our 31 shots on goal kept Clintonville's goalie quite busy.”

Junior Breanna Brennecke scored Antigo's first goal of the season a mere 12:42 into the game with the help of MacKenzie Parise, also a junior assistance. The impressive playing remained constant, as Keah Mach (junior) scored a textbook goal 46 minutes later. Alicia Lex (senior) made the assist on that goal, bringing the score to 2-0.

“The girls didn't falter and were able to start their season out with a solid win,” she added. “Coach Mel Kubacki and I couldn't be more pleased with the girls and hope that this win foreshadows a successful season.”

Antigo remains at home tonight in facing Great Northern Conference rival Northland Pines at 5 p.m.
